Has anyone hiked to the Pinnacles in the Kauaeranga Valley behind Thames on the Coromandel Peninsula? I can't decide whether to stay a full third day in Whitianga, or go to Thames a half day earlier so I can hike this trail. Is this a spectacular trail?
From there I head down south to do the Queen Charlotte Track, then to Tasmania to do the Overland Track. Any input would be appreciated!
Many thanks, Bon

Its a great track, especially with good weather. Very doable as a day walk, climbing gently through lovely bush and moss, sometimes on historic stone steps originally carved out for horse transport. Takes about 2 hours to get to the large hut ( which needs to be prebooked if you wish to stay the night) then a further 45 minutes to climb to the Pinnacles. Great views from these wonderful limestone formations.
