You're completely correct, Herb. State control is such in China that the media is a very whacky phenomenon. Reading The People's Daily does indeed give a skewed view of the world. The reports in the Chinese press in the past week about slave labour were apparently one of the (if not the) frst instance of investigative reporting exposing the truth in China.

I'm still waiting for a good investigative journalism piece on illegal organ harvesting in the Beijing Bugle.

Journalists, reporters, newspapers, TV stations are the same all over the world.

They all dish out rubbish to frighten you.

When something good is done...it is always too little too late.
When people get hurt.....they are always women and children.

I receive several calls from friends and relatives abroad telling me to lie low and be alert for a lose gunman who had shot THREE backpackers, TWO lawyers and assistants and a beautiful woman (who was wearing a..................dress and had long black hair........, model, real beaut....).

And the gunman is looking for more innocent victims and police were not able to locate the gunman. A background report told of so many drive by shootings abd so many gunmen on the loose in the City, One was arrested by the Greek Polce and he was with a beautiful woman (who was wearing a.......dress and had long hair brunnete but esearch showed she had blonde hair.........hair dresser, model and a real beauty..........).

One relative was so worried as there was a police chase down a freeway that she thought ran pass my home. The Aboriginal was caught. She also advice me to stay clear of pubs having heard a football star king hit a politician at a bar when he bare his bottoms to a beautiful woman (who was wearing a......................dress and had long black hair........model and very attractive in her knee high boots.).

In the minds of journos, Australia is about the size of Wales or maybe even geographically smaller than Singapore.

Don't belive what you read unless the writer had been given Agent 86's truth serum.

look herb you've got to get out more, i know it's winter and there's snow up to the window sills but you can't sit around all day smoking dope and reading the 'shanghai press' on the internet

we're all in the same sinking ship, the weather's crapped out, it's dark, the power is unreliable, the green's seem to have taken over politics, no one's got any money and we might not win the america's cup so the best thing to do is make for the nearest bar and some local bonhomie:)

But you do realise that this was the same 'Uncle Herb' who was building a holiday home and was concerned about high power bills while he was overseas for long periods. It almost sounded as if he lived overseas almost permanently. The two don't quite add up.
