Dear everyone,

I'm a perky and sociable Argentine chap (in his early thirties) from Buenos Aires and will be flying to Auckland in early January. Will be visiting Queenstown during that month (at least 10 days) with a Kiwi friend from Auckland. What are the MUSTs in both Auckland and Queenstown or thereabouts? I'm into both outdoors (swimming, rafting, wine-tasting, a bit of trekking perhaps) and indoors (eating out, clubbing, museums, pop/rock music concerts, etc) activities...

musts in auckland.... getting out of there asap!! no seriously i've survived here for nearly 7 months, i quite like the waitakere beaches, they're black sand beaches but you would need a car, climb rangitoto - that's worth the effort, i suppose the sky tower is worth a ganders if it's a clear day. Waiheke island - if you like beaches, it's gorgeous over there and they have vineyards too.

I think going to Piha in Auckland to look at the gannet colonies is nice and free.
You could do some walking in the waitakeres ( tramping as we like to call it)

Clubbing in Auckland is really not that exciting a lot of very drunk people at the water front clubs stumbling around not that much dancing going on.( I used to live in Argentina and I think their clubbing scene is a lot better.

Cheap eats: I would personally go for Asian food courts there are a few dotted around the centre of the city such as queen street and albert street.

In Parnell/Newmarket , a short bus ride from the city you can go to the Auckland Museum. You can take the link bus there.

If you are interested in Pacific culture- samoan, tongan etc... then you could head out to the Otara Markets on saturday morning they sell a lot of pacific crafts and fruit and vege , music etc...

Rock and pop concers well not sure what would be on at the time but you could always head up to the big record store on queen street as they always have gig guides there.

Those are just a few little ideas.
