Are you sure the hire company will let you take it off paved roads? Paradoxically, here in Oz they don't! And if it gets "bashed around" you pay dearly.

I can't think of anywhere that a visitor would need to go in one week that would require 4WD. Rental cars are not allowed on a couple of roads - Skippers' Canyon is one iirc.
