Hi there,

Wondering if anyone can help or knows the answer to this question. In 2008 I did a working holiday in New Zealand (it was amazing!) and I'm wondering if there's any way I can get another one.

I applied for the visa through SWAP in Canada (which is part of IEP, International Exchange Program). I have heard and thought that this was a slightly different visa than what you apply for directly via the Department of Immigration website. I was wondering if I could now apply for the visa via the immigration website, or if I'd get rejected because I already went on a working holiday visa.

One reason I'm confused is that SWAP offers a second working holiday visa if you go through them again. But the cost is more than $1000, and you only have 6 months to use it after applying. I was wondering if there's a way to just apply directly on the Dept. of Immigration website.

It appears SWAP has an agreement with NZ Immigration for WHVs. On that basis ( I'm not an expert so this is all an assumption on my part) I should think DoI would consider you have already had a visa and decline your application if you applied direct. Your only chance then would be the SWAP program.

How about, if you haven't done it, get an Aust WHV and do that one instead.
Aud$440 is all you need for the Aust WHV fees, though it might go up in Jul this year.
