Hi there good folk of TT,

My mate and I are looking to escape our own town for ny this year and have decided that queenstown could be a pretty good option, looking at flying over from syd on the 28th for 10-12 days. can anyone suggest a good party atmosphere hostel we can check out, and also somewhere for us to setup for a LARGE new years celebration. while we are there we are keen to do all the adrenalin type activities, so if there is anything in particular that you guys feel needs some special attention please let us know!

The outstanding hostel choice for a party atmosphere is Base Backpackers (Discovery Lodge) in Shotover Street. The hostel itself can be very lively (don't count on getting too much sleep in the dorms!) and the hostel bar - Altitude - is always packed with backpackers etc.

By now it might be a case of take whatever you can though. You're not the only ones who think Queenstown would be a great place to spend New Year.
