What are the chances of getting decent ski conditions in NZ in second half of July? Which areas would be best to go to?
Thanks.

You will be able to ski in July. The seasons in NZ can be hit and miss. 2006 was a great year in the South Island but 2007 was poor apart from October. The commercial fields all have snow making facilities. The best places to ski in my opinion are the club fields in the Craigeburn range (Cheeseman, Broken River, Craigeburn and Olympus). These fields offer access to some amazing terrain. Be prepare to use a nutcracaker on the rope tows! Cheeseman has t-bars but forget about chairlifts. These club fields offer cheap accom and are always very friendly and rarely do you have to queue. Temple Basin is also a great field when it is open. A good option would be a chill pass which offers many different passes at a discounted rate. Other good commercial fields in NZ are Treble Cone and Porters (when its on its good). In the North Island Whakapapa and Turoa are good fields. Most of the commercial fields have chairlifts and t-bars.

I'll second treble cone, which you should have no problem hitting in July, and it's really easy to find discounts there if you are just going for a day. Whanaka's also a hub of skiiers/boarders in the winter months, so anyone there will be ablet to tell you what's good.

I'd say yep, July is all good.
The Maunganui field on Mt. Taranaki has a tussock base (so no dings from rocks) and some of the best views of any field in the country.
If it dumps, it rules.
T-bar and steeeeep nut-cracker.
Apart from te ika steez, I'd go Broken River as #1 mentioned.

In case it helps...
Here's some trend graphs for the last few years for the south island:

And here's a bunch of fun stuff you can do while you're in NZ ;)
