We are looking for suggestions for hiking/outdoor activity/lodging in the Northland and Bay of Islands for a week this coming February. We toured the South Island several years ago, staying mostly in holiday park cabins and nicer BBH hostels , private room. We're excited to return and explore the North Island this time. We're a "young at heart, slightly older in body" couple in our mid 60s - hiking is great, but no overnight treks.
We will be leaving the Bay of Plenty area February 12 and need to be in Auckland the afternoon of Feb 19. We like to stay at least two nights at any spot, and since we will have been traveling for a while, a longer stay at one place in the Northland would be great. We want to be sure to include time at Waipaou Forest or wherever is recommended to appreciate the Kauri forests. (My husband is a forest ecologist. We like trees….)
Any suggestions are appreciated. Happy New Year.

Have a look at The Tree House at KohuKohu on the North Hokianga.

Whangarei district has a range of accommodation choices - including holiday parks and cabins, but also very nice B&Bs. Some wonderful and mature native trees in this district, and great day walks including coastal.

But also Whangarei is handy to Auckland, Dargaville (and west coast - Waipoua Forest), and the Bay of Islands. Plenty to see around the city itself including former Maori Pa-sites and other points of interest.

Hey! My name is Jay and i am from germany. Am on holidays here and just finished my tobacco. As its extremely expensive here i am looking for someone who can bring me some tobacco from the duty free shop. Of course i will pay for the tobacco and also pick you up from auckland auirport and drive you to your destination. Let me know if this sounds good to you!
Cheers, Jay
