Need advice : Self-drive tour arrangement through travel agency

Have a look at their suggested itineraries then just go it alone. Its not like NZ is a really complicated country to travel in. Unless this is a subtle "advert" for them.

Can't see the point of this, unless it gives you a good discount.
I would get the best car hire deal I could find (check out drivenow.co.nz) and then book the best deals on wotif, or similar discount sites.
As mentioned, the site may give you itineraries worth following, but will also lock you in to those, and maybe even lock you into accommodation choices.

Thank you for the advice. I omitted to mention that the NZ trip is actually for a honeymoon and we thought that it would be a lot easier to have the itinerary planned out for us.
Since we are not from NZ, we wanted to know if that travel agency is reputable before we make any payment.

any travel agency itinerary will give you six hours a day in the car, apart from your two nights at Queenstown where they will expect you to be bungee jumping,jetboating etc.

suggest getting a guidebook, seeing what interests you, finding out distances, working out times on a basis of 60km.h and going from there. Remembering to add weather contingency.

To further this we need more information:
- Are you planning both islands or just one?
- For how long?
- Do you prefer a trip where you move every day or 2, and see many places, or would prefer a base in 2 or 3 locations, with a few days in each?
- Are there any specific must sees? (Glaciers, Mt Cook, Queenstown, Rotorua, Bay of Islands. Cities, scenery, adventure etc)
- What sort of accommodation - cheap cabins, camp grounds or 5 star hotels?
