To pick one fault at random
- I've ACTUALLY done the Cathedral Cove and it could not be done in 10 minutes by Usain Bolt. 40 minutes walk in, maybe 30 if you sprint.
- The water Taxi will not improve this, The car park is at the top of a the cliffs. The water taxi may take you back to Hahei beach from where it's a half hour walk back, saving you no time at all.
This is all a giant piss take isn't it?

It's either that, or a not unfamiliar Euro-arrogance. I've seen it in Australia so much as well.

ianw6705 / donizetti : ok NO thanks to you. Seems the forum has changed over the years ... far away from the thorn tree idea.

If it's changed from indulging ridiculous agendas to something manageable and decent ... I'm really pleased that it has. Have your fun.

Day 30, 31 Abel tasman : day 1 day anchorage to awaroa hut
day 2 : Awaroa hut to totaranui in the afternoon drive to collingwood
on the way Rawhiti cave, the grove scenic reserve, te waikoropupu springs

I haven't worked out the actual date of day 31, but I'm assuming you've checked the tide tables for Awaroa Inlet? It's only passable roughly 90 minutes before and after low tide. There is no alternative like some of the other tidal crossings in Abel Tasman.
Also check for Moeraki - the boulders are only visible at low tide. Assuming that's why Moeraki's on your itinerary?

Hi,

Greenseat : Thank you for your reply. I have put my itinerary also on another forum. Also on this forum they pointed out my mistake. I will now stay at bark bay. So day 1 watertaxi to Anchorage --> walk to bark bay --> sleep --> walk from bark bay to awaroa hut --> water taxi back.
So we 'll have a more relaxed time at abel tasman, let's hope it's sunny on those days.
Low tide should be around 13.40 on this day for Moeraki.

harry_ramsden : I corrected the time to Cathedral cave in post 14.
I've already made an arrangement with the place we are sleeping. They will drop us of at the car parking (so no searching for a spot)
Do the hike down --> enjoy --> watertaxi back (10 min) from the boat landing to sleeping place 15 min on foot.
There's also a service "Cathedral cove shuttle"

If you're objective here is to demonstrate that the advice you're getting is poor, inaccurate, or unnecessary, then you certainly are persistent.

have another think about your trip to waitomo, for the caves assumedly.
whakatane across to waitomo is one side of the island to the other
more logical way is from rotorua to waitomo, and then across to whakatane and up to Tauranga and the Coromandel.
