Hi people,

I'm heading to the south island for the last two weeks in October and was plannig on do some high level walks like the Kepler tracks etc and was wondering wether ice axe and crampons would be needed? I have my own but if they are availble locally for hire?? and are a good rate then i would rent.
Any ideas.

You won't need ice axe/crampons for the Kepler. There may be snow on the higher levels, but that's it. A good pair of boots & gaiters will be all you need.

What other high level walks are you thinking of?
