Is anybody there who saw geisers of Atacama in Chile and Rotorua in NZ? Is chilean one any betteror different than NZ. I will definitavely see the geisers in NZ and wondered whether it makes sense to make this tour in Atacama or rather skip. Any comments appraciated. Monika

Hi, Yes i my girlfirend and i have recently seen both, and both agree that the El Tatio Geysers in Atacama, were vastly superior to the ones in Rotorua- controversial maybe, but do they let you boil and egg in the water in NZ.... one thing though watch out for the altitude in Chile from san pedro at around 2500m above sea level, you go straight up to 4321m above in two hours - its the only time my girlfriend and i really felt it.
what ever you do , they both great and have fun

I´m quite surprised - somewhow I thought that NZ must be the best. Thanx, so I will make my way to Atacama. Thanx 4 warning - after Bolivia and Cordiliera blanca i should be ok with an altitude;-)
Hi - I can only comment on the El tatio Geyser (so far, Í am off to NZ in January next year :-)).
From S. Pedro I'd rate the Salar de Atacama & Valle de la Luna as must sees. Perhaps the Laguna Verde on the far side of Licancabur as a candidate too.
The El tatio is IMHO not exactly a Geyser - I'd rate it as "hot springs" - just to set your expectations right. I liked the tour, however, despite bad hang overs (don't copy that, the altitude does not exactly relieve hang overs....).
Ah, and don't miss the museum.
All in all, I think there are a lot of reasons for going to S.Pedro - I still regard it as a highlight in Chile!
