I am going to New Zealand on 20th of feabruary.
I have flights to Auckland and I planned to do one week road trip, probably only on North Island.

Do I need to book a rental car earlier online? Or can I just walk into rental-car shop and pick one...I was wondering, if that is busy season, is there cars left.

And do I need to book accomodations earlier online too? Is there going to be rooms left end of february?

No you won't need to prebook accommodation at that time of year.

You will find it cheaper to prebook a rental car. Try Pegasus or Jucy for starters.

Agree you shouldn't need to book accomodation, however with cars its often cheaper to book in advance, or you run the risk of only having expensive options at the airport!

You won;'t need to book accommodation for New Zealand in February. Great time to be there - weather is at its best, but summer holiday crowds have gone.
But I would never walk into a car rental place expecting a deal - you do that, you pay absolutely top price.
You get the deals by booking, in advance, online.

I agree with everyone that February is a great time to be in NZ and accommodation is not hard to find then. My husband and I were there in February and March of 2013. We bought a bus pass on nakedbus.com rather than renting a car and it worked out very well for our needs (and we hitchhiked to places where the bus didn't go, which is very easy and safe in NZ). However, an acquaintance recently told me about http://www.imoova.com/ which sounds like a great deal for rentals; next time I am in NZ or Australia I will definitely be checking them out. Have fun!

ok, thanks.
I will book a rental car, but I do not book accomodations earlier.

This helps also, because then we can change our plans easily on the road.

Hey! My name is Jay and i am from germany. Am on holidays here and just finished my tobacco. As its extremely expensive here i am looking for someone who can bring me some tobacco from the duty free shop. Of course i will pay for the tobacco and also pick you up from auckland auirport and drive you to your destination. Let me know if this sounds good to you!
Cheers, Jay
