We are traveling to NZ from the UK and will be stopping at Sydney and Hong Kong on route.
We want to stock up on spirits at duty free. Which duty free is cheapest out of the UK, Sydney and Hong Kong?

Thanks

I can't say which is cheapest but you will need to make sure your duty free is in your checked in luggage as most airports won't allow you to carry liquids on to the plane. I have a friend who had to hand over their duty free just after they had bought it as it was in their carry on bag.

NZ has 2 large inbound duty free shops. They used to have the reputation for being one of the cheapest in the world, but not sure currently. At least it would save you the hassle of carrying bottles and, even, as #1 has suggested, having to hand it over.

Sorry, make that Auckland. I assume that's where you'll be landing.

as above - if you buy duty free anywhere outside a terminal's security zone you either have to check it in, or have it confiscated.

This means, unless you plan to drink it on the way or stick it in your checked luggage (not advised) your choices are limited to your final leg - Sydney airport (after immigration) or NZ when you arrive.

I'd have to agree with #2, I've always found NZ to be the cheapest for spirits. Its usually half the price of sydney. For example I recently wanted to get a bottle of Tanqueray Gin - at sydney airport flying out it was $45.99 AUD. My dad brought be back a bottle from NZ duty free at it was $29.00 NZ.

Take note of the others warnings as well, if you don't drink it all, you'll need to pack it in your checked luggage and it does count towards the amount you can bring into the country.

Best by far for spirits is Duty Free Stores NZ using their frequent buyer scheme (requires you to order 2 business days in advance) and save 20%

Thanks for all the replies

I land in Christchurch so is there a inbound duty free shop there?
I don't want to buy it to bring back to the UK I want it to drink whilst in NZ.

Thanks again
