Hello all!

1. I'm flying to New Zealand (dunedin) for university in January or February and I would like to take advantage of these rumored free layovers in the islands. What's the story there?

Question #3 What is the best airline to fly? I'm guessing Air Newzeland is it?

Err, which islands exactly?? There are only a few thousand inhabited ones in the Pacific, and I doubt that Air New Zealand is going to drop you off at any of them for free.

Air NZ flies ex Vancouver, not Toronto - you'll probably find it cheaper to get the cheapest flight you can to LAX, and then come over on Air NZ, Qantas or Tahiti Nui - this is the one that will give a layover on Tahiti.

<a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.airtahitinui-usa.com/default.asp">Air Tahiti Nui</a> flies each Wednesday New York to Auckland, via Papeete (Tahiti), where you could have a stopover. Means you have two short flights either end however. Perhaps see a travel agent for Air New Zealand, Air Pacific, and Qantas schedules that include other Pacific Islands (eg Fiji).

With Air Pacific, you should be able to get a free stopover in Fiji as its their carrier.
