I am travelling to New Zealand from UK on a working holiday visa in October. At the moment I'm looking into travel insurance but not sure which company to go with. I would want the possibility of extension whilst over there (in case I do decide to extend my visa after a year), and I also have a pre-existing medical condition which I need cover for too.

I've tried True Traveller but they don't offer pre-existing med cover. I have also got a quote from STA but have just read some of their reviews and it doesn't look too good!

Can anyone recommend any companies?

Are you sure about TT not allowing medical conditions? They certainly used to (but not I think on their cheap policy) and they also had a load of medical condition they'd cover as standard, like asthma?

I've used World Nomads many times as they allow you to renew from outside your home country, which many companies do not. However I have no idea about pre-existing conditions.

We currently have a WN policy and even though over 65, they don't ask about pre existing conditions when you take out the policy. Must be something in the fine print. My husband doesn't have anything that would exclude him medical-wise from a policy but a certain condition has affected others in his family.

Use Google.co.nz and search for " medical insurance for travellers to NZ" and you'll see some there. The first is run by NZs biggest health insurer and covers those on WHVs.

Asking here is not the right place since apart from WNs, you do have to buy travel insurance in your home country.

But there is a reciprocal agreement between the UK and Australia to provide medical care - but not sure if it would run to anything other than a medical emergency such as an accident so a pre-existing condition may not be covered.

Seeing as this is about NZ, not Australia, your statement is definitely NOT true. There are more than one NZ insurance companies that insure those on WHVs AFTER they arrive here.
