Hi - have checked FAQs and other comments which work well for longer-term rental - but does anyone have any info on the latest/usual best deals for short-term rentals in NZ please? I need an automatic car for 4-5 days in the South Island out of Queenstown and for a week or so in North Island out of Rotorua to Auckland.
Any advice very welcome! Cheers

For short term rentals, the majors can be suprisingly competitive, particularly if your hire is over the weekend. But I recently hired a small car, damn near the smallest in the world, from Jucy for a few days at a very good rate and was given a wee present in the form of a voucher for my next rental. As I was walking up the main drag in Queenstown, I did notice a great deal on a Subaru 4WD for a short term rent - $69 a day, even for one day. Can't remember the name of the firm, sorry.
I don't know the Rotorua rental scene, can't stand the place, but Pegasus is likely to be one of your better options.

I've hired mine from Avis in Rotorua (my travel plans have changed so the ease outweighs the extra cost) - what I can say is that the cost of hiring in Rotorua is significantly more expensive than hiring in, say, Tauranga and returning it to Rotorua. But if you're going to fly in/out of Rotorua it would probably be best to just use one of the companies that have an airport presence - and that includes Avis.

Try website www.fetchcarhire.com it compares different companies and you can generally find a good deal.
