i will be in NZ at the end of november and don't want to book hostels now as i am not sure of my plans. all the hostels i have emailed have said it will be really busy so i need to book now and take payment. they are obviuosly going to say that.
can i just turn up an get a bed or is the end of november a really busy time.
your experiences/advices are appreciated

You should be OK till schools finish on 14th of Dec however it is a busy time and if you want to be able to choose the best places rather than what is left I would book. Guess it depends on how fussy you are about where you sleep. Maybe the compromise is to book as you go - say 3 days out so at least you know you have a place.
