Ive got both a British and Australian passport. Ive lived in London for most of my life and haven't been to Australia since I was a kid but I'm interested in moving to Melbourne for a few months to see how it works out.

Im wondering how long my savings are going to last out in Melbourne? 1 British pound is about 2 Australian dollars, but I've no idea how much rent, travel, nights out, food etc costs in Melbourne. If anyone have experience of both cities then which is more expensive (taking into…

Hi

I'll be travelling on the Ghan, the Indian Pacific and the Overland in a few weeks in Red Class (the cheapest). According to Great Southern's website, I'm allowed two 20 kg bags for checked-in luggage.

That's a shame, as one of my bags weighs 25 kg and the other 30 kg.

How strict is Great Southern Rail with baggage? Do they actually go to the trouble of weighing bags and penalising folks travelling with too much?

Thanks!

We had booked a one hour flight by plane over the Great Barrier Reef through the Booking Office with Hamilton Island Air. After having submitted our weight details we got a confirmation of our booking and forwarded our credit card details. To our great surprise we were subsequently informed that the flights are “now fully booked” and - that our confirmed reservation would not be honored. As transpired, Hamilton Island Air cancels confirmed reservation for one or two people if the seats are need…

Hello!

I am moving to Adelaide from California for my postgraduate degree. I will be there for two years. First, any general tips for moving to Australia, or Adelaide more generally?

Secondly, which guidebook would you recommend? I hope to do some traveling during my breaks and would like a guidebook to help me choose where to go and what to do while there. I don't tend to use the restaurant or lodging recommendations as much. In the past I have enjoyed the Moon guides and Lonely Planet.

Hey all
**
A mate and I are **flying
over to Perth next month from our hometown of Sydney to hire a van in order to road trip back.

We pretty much have 3 weeks so no massive rush and no night driving.

I am an extremely adventurous person (Love hiking, new swim holes, jump rocks, sunsets, pretty much anything that makes me feel alive)

So I'm here asking for any sneaky hints or camping spots that blew your mind, food that was out of this world, swim holes/beaches that made you woooooow, walks

Hi, my fiance and I are travelling to Australia for the first time ever (Dec. 12 to Jan. 02) for the trip of a lifetime. It will be our first time traveling together, and we want to fully utilize every moment.

We need some suggestions and help to get an itinerary filled up and maximize our stay. Some of the things we are interested in doing:
- Diving at Cairns
- Spending NYE on a beach with fireworks and music
- Exploring the country via different means of transportation between cities (part road…

Hello,

We will be travelling in Australia next July & I am keen to book YHA as this will keep our accomodation quite low. However, in YHA where family rooms are not available, it says that children under 17 are not allowed to sleep in dorms. But where 4 person dorms are available, considering we are a family of 4, is it OK to book it ? How should we proceed then = pretend our children are over 17 when we fill the online booking ?

Thank you very much for your answer,

Muriel

Hey guys,

Just trying to plan a trip to Tasmania and was hoping for advice on a couple of things.

I primarily want to go Tassy for the hiking and photography but at the moment it seems I have to kind of sacrifice one for the other.

I would really love to photograph Tasmania while there’s snow on the mountains and beautiful landscapes, frozen lakes etc etc but would there be these opportunities in summer?

I’m guessing it’s too cold/hard for a newbie hiker like me to do what Tas has to offer…

Made a booking via Agoda.com then found out their cancellation policy is a 1 night penalty if cancelled within 3 days. The hotels policy is 24 hrs which is normal. So I had to pay a 1 night penalty only because i used agoda.com instead of booking with the hotel direct. What a rip off
