Hey Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone had general advice for the east coast of Australia. What to do, where to go, what to see, what to avoid, cheap places/expensive places, cheap places to stay ect. Just general advice that you may have gotten from your own travels or experiences.

This is all in aid of me planning my trip up the coast. I love to try everything from diving to museums, so let me know what you would recommend!

This could also help other travellers looking for some tips…

I'll be with family for a couple weeks in Sydney, but will have two or three days to get away on my own. I love dayhiking and car camping in the US, and wondering if there are any opportunities within a few hours drive of Sydney. I know there are a lot of 3+ day adventures, I'm looking more for something I can (safely) do on my own, perhaps sleeping in a motel in a small town and doing day hikes from there. I'll rent a car if necessary, though my first preference is to do it by train or bus…

Hi everyone!

A few things really....So next year myself and 2 of my girlfriends will be flying to Cairns (from Sydney) to rent a car and travel back down to Sydney. We looked into getting a camper van but it was 4x the price. So instead we were planning on buying a tent/tents and just camping where we can.

This is where I need a bit of help. First of all...I have tried and tried online to find places where we can park and camp but I cannot seem to find anything at all. Does anyone have any…

We are a couple with 2 little children (1yr and 3yr) and are going to be in Tasmania in March for 1 week. We want see visit Port Arthur, Mount Wellington, Bonorong, Freycinet, Launceston, Cataract Gorge, Cradle Mountain and perhaps other places if we have time. We'd like to stay in as few places as possible to avoid packing/unpacking and checking in and out, and we'd like to avoid backtracking as well. We can fly into Hobart and out of Launceston or vice versa. Can anyone suggest a route, and…

Hi
We have around 10 days (end of March/be April) to travel from Brisbane to Cairns and I am looking for advice on which would be the better of these two options
a) hire an SUV and stay in Airbnb/hotels
b) hire a motorhome (probably cheaper but as flexible?)
Any advice would be gratefully received
Thanks

Hi guys,

I'm travelling with my parents who are relatively old (in their 60s) - last time they visited us in London, it took them half a day to walk Hyde Park. No jokes. So i'm trying to put together a decent and realistic schedule for the time we have in Aus.

We'll arrive in Melbourne on 17th March, I have bought the flight tickets to Sydney and back for 22nd - 26th March. I'm leaving on 29th March, they are there with my bro till 6th Apr. Here's what I have so far, would really appreciate…

Hello!
So excited to be asking for help on Thorn Tree. It means we're going some place fun - yay!
In March, we are going to visit American relatives who live in Kiama, NSW (100 miles south of Sydney). No kids on this trip. 11 days in AU, then fly over to New Zealand for a week. First time visitor to this part of the world. We've decided that we will be back again someday, so we're not trying to unrealistically check off the entire bucket list in one trip. Just looking for "can't miss" day or…

I'll be in Sydney for two weeks, and would love to hop on the train or bus to get out of the CBD and visit interesting neighborhoods. I'm looking for dense neighborhoods with lots of pedestrian life, ethnic enclaves, bohemian neighborhoods, or even offbeat areas like industrial zones or quirky suburbs. I'm a street photographer, and hoping to find interesting faces, people, buildings, businesses. Thanks for any tips.

At the beginning of March I will fly to Sydney to start a 5 month trip around the coast. I have been planning to rent a car (not 4WD) and wonder if I will be able to get completely around with it - especially up the west coast and across the north - and not miss out on too many exciting places that are off the sealed roads. Any knowledge you care to share?

I have also thought of buying a used 4WD at the market in Sydney where they have guaranteed buy backs. Any advice there?

I am an old (75)…
