Hello, I'm 25 and in October plan to do a WHV in Australia. I've already got my visa, but yet to book my flight.
I'm very flexible with dates in October, but definitely October.
Any tips? I'm starting off in Melbourne.
Anyone else planning to go around this time?
I'll be landing in Cairns on the 21st of July, booked into Nomads hostel for a few nights then i'll be flying to Brisbane and working my way back to Cairns for the next few weeks via the Greyhound bus. 19, from England and currently travelling alone

Hello! i'm Briony i am 21 and planning my first backpackers trip to Australia leaving Edinburgh (UK) October 2016. I am unsure where to fly to and would like some advice! I plan on doing the east coast and ending up in Melbourne to work as part of my working holiday visa. I am looking for hostel recommendations for my first trip to Austrialia this November. I usually do not pre-book anything but my first night, but I understand Sydney can be busy. Also, after a 30-hour flight, I do not see myself walking around scouting hostels.
My criteria/wishes:
- Attracts an older crowd (30+)
- Sociable, but not a party hostel

So, the Australia dog quarantine laws are pretty well-known now because of the Johnny Depp incident but until now, I was largely unaware of such a quarantine. We land in Sydney in 36 hours for a five month drive around of Australia. We will circle the country, drive Tasmania and drive through the center of the country.
Does anyone have recommendations on bird guides for two people with their own 4Runner? Or birding organizations which recommend local bird guides?
