Hello Members,

Ive just completed my first travel around SE Asia and it was incredible, the sights, smells, and the people I met couldn't had been more memorable. Thorntree has become a place to get me excited and looking forward to my next adventure too.

I'll be leaving for OZ on a year long working visa in May and was wondering if you or someone you know have worked any crazy/odd/fun jobs when there. I plan to set up possibly in Melbourne for a few months at first and then travel to the outback and hopefully get into some truly unique jobs. Things such as catching kangaroos, snakes, etc, working on boats, really anything that I couldn't necessarily do back home.

All ideas and stories are most welcome!

Hope you have a great trip but please don't try catching our snakes - most are protected, are venomous and will kill you. Catching kangaroos is also not a regular occupation - not easily done, and for what purpose? Though in the outback you might be able to shoot a few with landholders' permission.

Just had a thought, there is a Reptile Park just north of Sydney which milks funnel-web spiders and snakes for their venom to produce anti-venene products, that might be quirky enough for you, if you could land a job there. See here

Kangaroo meat is well known at my local Coles.
And as far as I know, we here in Aust do not farm kangaroos.
Contact Maro Meats to ask their supplier is, I think Marko is the processor.
I don't have an address, and don't work for Marco, just that I do buy their processed kangaroo mince.

Work on the cotton fields as a tractor driver, my mate got about 10000 EUR / month while working that. After 8 months he had some 72000 EUR saved, and was laughing that he came to Australia thinking if his travel budget will last, and in the end he could just pick whatever hotel he wants, or go wherever he wants, no worries.
