what's the weather like in this part of the world (South and Central) between end of october and end of december? I live in London, it's almost July and it's 10C, it's raining and I've got my coat on, so please tell me it might be sunny! Cant take more rain...

Do you mean Australia or New Zealand?

If oz: Bureau of Meterology site has info.
Depends where you are though as Australia is a tad larger than the UK.
In Sydney ( Central and East) it's usually fairly pleasant with daytime temps around the low 20s and nights around 15-16. Can get the occassional few days in the high 20s low 30s and obviously warmer in Dec than Oct. Can get very heavy rain but usually only lasts for a day if that. Afternoon thunderstorms sometimes.
The further north you go the warmer it is and the further south will be cooler.

Bauhaus, go to australia.co and ignore the beer adds. when map is loaded, there will be a layers option at the top. Choose climate and you can toggle between temp and rainfall, and rotate the months also. This site is good for figuring out weather and climate in a place that insist on being upside down AND reversed.

From memory, in a normal year, we tend to get most of our rain in Melbourne in November. But then again, it hasn't been a normal year in a long time.

I do know that it was stormy and wild on Christmas Day here 2006 - we had the heating on and were rugged up in our woolies while the temp struggled to make it to 15 degrees. But that too is an anomaly.

whatever happens, I'm sure it will be warmer than Britain.

Hello,

Your token name is interesting. Do you live in a dilapidated house in London?

South and central Australia takes in Victoria, Northern Territory and South Australia. If you're looking for good weather time, and you shouldn't, Victoria is the least good weather place to visit. These days, all of us are hoping for overcast and rain, but Victoria will give it to you.

October will give you a taste of Australia's heat. You will see wildlife bloom, if you are interested in flora and fauna, it's the best time to visit.

Do you have specific places to visit?

hey, thanks! i was talking about australia, not new zealand (post num 1)

thinking of seeing sydney, melbourne, uluru, the reefs around cairns, central desert...quite a typical trip, a couple of months

my initial plan was going from rio de janeiro to buenos aires, but everybody has been saying it will rain even more than it does in london during that time and i am changing my plans. Not being silly, really. I have been to 50+ countries so far, but i've been in london for a few years and i have barely seen the sun since. Really cant take this rain anymore. I am from a city that is sunny most of the year, reaching 50C in july easily, and seeing the sun again is the main reason for this trip, especially since it looks like yet again there will be no summer here this year again (it's july and we've got the heating on and it's raining non-stop)

that's why i was asking about the weather from people who are there. Always wanted to go to australia so if south america is going to be like london then i would love to know from people over there what the weather might be like between Oct 20-Dec 20 (my trip) in the places i am traveling to. If it's raining there too i will def go to the middle east somewhere, whatever place where they havent seen a cloud in their lives...

...sounds desperate? move to the UK and you'll understand!

For those areas at that time of year it would be pretty good. To take advantage of the warmest weather start in the north and head south. Also avoids backtracking.
Example:
Fly into Darwin if you can first to avoid the wet which starts towards the end of October then head down to Uluru, Fly from there to Cairns then to Sydney and Melbourne last which by December will be nice and warm. Fly home/UK out of Melbourne. Check with your carrier for an airpass.

#5. Victoria has some great weather from Oct to Dec. In 2005 or 2004 we had temps pf 40 degrees in the first week of October. Admittedly we've also had Christmas Days of 19. Southern and Eastern vic is likely to be wetter than Northern Vic, where you can expect long, warm to hot days from the high 20's to low 40's.
