Hi All

I've visited Melbourne many times, and used to live there for a few years. I've been to many places of interest during my visitis; e.g. MCG tour, Melbourne Museum, Police Museum, Immigration Museum, but there must be some obscure places to visit that I'm unaware of.

I'd be interested in hearing anybody's ideas.

We'll be there for four days in early June and are booked in to see Miss Saigon, Circue del Solell and will also see the Great Wall exhibition at the museum.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Go for a drink in Northcote and watch the sunset from Rucker's Hill. Beautiful.

Footscray

The tan?

Capital City Trail - hire a bike, you'd forget you're in a city at certain points.

Cruise from Southbank to Williamstown.

Go down to Ricketts Point.

Shameless Gigspam:

My band is playing the Barleycorn on Thursday night 7th June (latish) and Cape Live on Sunday arvo 10th June from 3pm - a far cry from Miss Saigon, but maybe an insight into the seedier side of live music in Melbourne.

The tram car restaurant is indeed still there and is very good. It's pricey, but all drinks are included, so if you try you can get your money's worth.

for something slightly different -

get a train or drive down to Geelong take a walk along the waterfront and check out the Bollards. here

have lunch at one of the many eateries on the waterfront - though would not recommend Smorgy's on the pier.
The Wharfshed, Sailors Rest, Sheraton, Fishermen's pier, Beach House all good places.

Go to La Mamas or Carlton Courthouse for different theatre and then to Brunettes for a coffee and cake - Lygon Street, www.lamama.com.au. Great atmosphere.
Footscray market on a Saturday is a buzz.
Wander along Sydney Road - stop at Med. Supermarket, for the best coffee and then onto the A1 Bakery for a turkish whatever they call it pastry thing - but yummy. Then there's always Victoria Street, Richmond for all things Vietnamese. The Abbotsford Convent off Johnson Street and in the same area as the Collingwood Children's farm is now open. I think there's an artist's market on a Sunday. If you haven't been to the Collingwood Children's farm it is worth a look with or without children.

Walk around the streets of Camberwell and be glad you did not grow up there- as I did!

Never try to whistle with a mouth full of custard.
