So I went and bought tickets on discount airlines from Oz to Taiwan- China and back to Oz.

Thought I had saved a bundle!!!!

Then went and looked at round-trip price with China Eastern and found I could have got the same trip a couple of hundred dollar cheaper with free bags and free meals............

Serves me right for trying to be too clever.....................

But at least you are (presumably) flying with a proper Aussie airline, rather than one of those dodgy Chinese ones!

Malaysian Air is not a discount airline. They are in actual fact a 5* airline and belong to a very small group of airlines having acheived that status.
raki-man you are an elite flyer (at least for part of your trip !)

Every group has its own dynamics, if you can't see the idiot then it's probably you.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think :-D

i agree with friendly_checkingirl, malaysia airline is a 5* airline. for example: even on very short flights within malaysia you get a beverage, a snack and friendly service. of course the 2 tragedies in 2014 were disastrous for mas.

Yeah but sometimes I see flights and spend too much time procrastinating or searching for others only to find the cheap seats sold by the time I decide. I've not flown China eastern, but did fly China southern and got premium economy for a pretty good fare, albeit in some cases it was just the front 3 rows of economy with meals. It was mile above many american airlines and also many budget airlines. Luckily I'm time poor otherwise I'd probably be looking for more flights for less money rather than once or twice a year for a reasonable price and comfort!
