Hello.
Im going on an Trek america style trip around australia - doing a full lap. After it I would liketo go see Tasmania, is it best to fly from Melbourne or Sydney ?
also, is it quite easy to get around tasmania? or would i be better off doing a similar tour but of tas.
thanks

There are more daily flights to Tasmania from Melbourne than there are from Sydney. If you hire a car you'll have no problems getting around. If you opt to bus it however then you should note that the general consensus here on the Tree is that public transport is limited to some areas of the island.
What's a Trek Merkin style?

I also would like to know, what is a "Trek america style" ?
Drovers Dog is correct, there are many more flights to Tas from Melbourne than from Sydney. Another option is the overnight ferry trip.
If you can afford it, hire a car. If you can't afford it, ask around at the hostel for someone who'll share the car hire costs.

If you want to travel by bus around tassie look up www.tassielink.com.au. They have deals for people travelling around the state

trek america as in www.trekamerica.com organised tours around america.
thanks for the replies everyone.

Certainly get a car for Tasmania. Fly from either Melbourne or Sydney, whichever is most convenient - it will only save you $20 odd dollars flying from Melbourne.

I implore you all – boycott Tasmania. Do not travel there. Do not spend any of your money in a place run by a corporation – namely Gunns Limited – A wood chipping company that destroys vast areas of wilderness in Tasmania with the help of the state ALP and federal Liberal governments and the CFMEU union: an unholy alliance. This returns next to nothing the people of Tasmania yet reaps huge profits for a company that still receives government subsidies and select contractors given union protection. They want to build a huge woodchip fed paper mill that will pollute the air of the Tamar Valley, kill the scallop industry, and use 1000’s of tonnes of old growth forest trees. If this pulp mill is such a great thing for Tasmanians, why must members of the Labor and Liberal parties vote in favour or risk expulsion from their parties? Why, despite four years of notice from the RPDC, was Gunns unable to provide proof of its green credentials? Why is Forestry Tasmania exempt from the Freedom of Information laws that apply to all other Government enterprises? Why is Forestry Tasmania still unable to turn a profit, despite selling millions of tonnes of forest to Gunns every year? Why should Tasmanians have to subsidise Gunns if the price of its pulp falls on the volatile world market?
Tasmania should be re-named Gunns-mania as this corporation controls the government – note Premier Lennon closed down the public approval process when Gunns looked like losing. The government of Tasmania and Australia is in a conspiracy with a corporation to rape the environment. Show your support for wild places by NOT traveling to Tasmania. Gunns is also attempting a SLAPP writ by suing environmental activists who disrupt its destruction of the environment – for details visit http://www.mcgunns.com/ and http://www.gunns20.org/. Spend your money elsewhere –do NOT go to Tasmania when you are in Australia. Send a message to these environmental vandals and the government of Tasmania – DO NOT GO TO TASMANIA. See http://www.discover-tasmania.com/ and http://treesnotgunns.org/ for the details of the destruction of Tasmania by Gunns Limited. Please, as an Australian I ask you to BOYCOTT TASMANIA.
And if no tourists go there, then Gunns will have one less reason not to go ahead. This is foolish thinking: the more the tourism prospers, the more there is to lose if schemes like the mill go ahead, and so the more the clamour against it. If you kick the tourism industry in the teeth, they might just buy shares in Gunns.
