Yeah, that is a very good point - and something everyone should take into account!!
Before I send off my stuff to anyone I will certainly check them out! Some of the companies I have had quotes from are obviously quite reputatble! Others less so!!
I guess price is not everything!

I used a company called Atlantic Shipping to send my goods back to Australia. They have offices in Birmingham and Leeds. My things haven't been despatched yet - they were only collected a few days ago - and because I only need a part-share of a container I have to wait up to two weeks until the container is filled with other shipments. So I can't give a complete report, but I've been satisfied with their service so far. And it has been a definite advantage that because they are a small company they can give personal and individual service. Their quote was competitive (or better) too.

Just a quick update on my previous message: I dug out the paperwork from the shipping company I used and they are actually called Atlantis (not Atlantic) Overseas Removals - the address for the Leeds office is: Atlantis House, Bennett Road, leeds LS6 3HN. Tel: (0113) 278 9191. Birmingham office, in case anyone else wants it (I used the Birmingham office to ship my stuff from London and Canterbury) is: 1607 Pershore Road, Stirchley, Birmingham B30 2JF. Tel: (0121) 451 1588. Website link is: http://www.atlantisltd.co.uk/
I've been in the UK for 13 years, and while I haven't accumulated much furniture (except a gorgeous bed I didn't want to part with), I have managed to accumulate quite a lot of personal stuff. I was quoted £526.20 for shipping 112 cubic feet to country Victoria - my consignment amounted to 25 boxes in total (10 large size - 4 cu. ft - and 15 small size - 2 cu. ft), plus a king size bed and mattress and some other stuff. The quote didn't include the cost of supply, delivery and collection of boxes, but that was fairly nominal (£3.00 for the large size boxes, £2.00 for the small size, £15.00 for delivery and £80.00 for collection and wrapping and packing up of my bed and other fragile items).

The worrying thing about using Google to find someone to ship your stuff is - how do you know it's not just a dodgy internet company that will steal/lose/damage your stuff...

The same way when i moved back from the UK to Australia I had to trust what the yellow pages had to offer! Phone quotes mostly.
