Good Afternoon,

Just a quickie really - I am moving back to Sydney next month, and live in the North of England (near Blackpool). Trying to find the best company to ship my stuff back to Oz with...nothing huge - just kitchen stuff, electrical goods, and the clothes that won't fit in my suitcase.

Can anyone recommend a good shipping company, or alternatively one who operates in the North of England rather than only within the M25 like most seem to? I can get my stuff to Manchester without a problem if that helps. Not too fussed how long it takes to get there, but 6-8 weeks would be ideal.

I have look at TNT and done a google search, but its hard to know who is good.

Thanks

Ben

Off topic, I moved the other way (Australia - Reading) and used TNT (am now back in ireland).

I did find them good, but I wouldn't bother shipping back electrical goods unless they are really expensive. Everything electrical you bring across will need an adapter, it gets fiddly. Its just as easy and cheap to get the items back in Oz. Ebay the uk stuff!

I used a company called Allfreight, who I found through TNT. They were fine and delivered everything in good condition for a fair price. I'm not sure if they only operate within the M25 area or are UK wide.

Also, bear in mind that you will be quoted a shipping time, but this will not include time your belongings will be held by customs. This can add another couple of weeks to the full delivery time!

Ben,

there is a great little company in Surrey called Brittania Movers who will give you cheap baggage rates back to OZ Their number is +44 20 8256 1700.

Ben,

I just moved back from country Ireland to Tassie. I only had about 37 kg to ship but when I looked into it, it ended up cheaper to post. I know Royal Mail is more expensive than An Post (in Ireland) but there was a massive difference in price... unless I wanted to wait about 4 months for my stuff to get to Tassie. Check it out, there might be a particular weight maximum that ends up cheaper per kg than shipping.

Hi,

Let me know how you get on.

I'll be shipping stuff back to Australia in a couple of months (very excited). I plan to take stereo, clothes, more clothes, shoes and anything else I can squeeze into a box. Can't an electrical store just change the plugs over?

Hiya people,

I am an australian who has been in the UK for hte past 3 years - I am shipping stuff back in a few weeks and basically I have found a few companies that have given me good quotes! I have pretty much the same as everyone else - about 5-6 boxes of clothes, electrical bits and personal items - each box will come close to 25kg. I think for shipping the weight dopes not matter so much because it is more determined on the volume!

I am shipping for me and my girlfriend (one box for me - 5 boxes for her!!! - women!!) thats why there is so much stuff!

I have simply emailed a few places for shipping quotes and found some quotes for less than £300 (admittedly I am taking a bit of stuff with me).

I would suggest simply finding a few places on google, I emailed them all off an estimate of how many boxes I was sending and the size of each box plus how much each box was likely to weight just to get an idea - I had quotes from £280 (door-to-door) to £480.

the best for me was INTERPACK so far - although I will shop around more once I finalise how much stuff I am taking.

Most of the places will provide free cartons and packing stuff - some charge extra for collection outside the M25. Most take between 7 and 9 weeks to arrive.. Some will also charge extra to deliver outside the Sydney metropolitan area.

I have listed the 3 best ones below - try these places but make sure you do shop around cause there is a massive difference in prices:

The worrying thing about using Google to find someone to ship your stuff is - how do you know it's not just a dodgy internet company that will steal/lose/damage your stuff...

That's why this question comes up over and over - people want personal recommendations...
