If you look through the FAQs, there is a lot of detail on car transfer and registration regulations.

You can certainly SELL a car with any plates in any state - no problem. The main issues arise for the buyer - and if they wish to transfer it to their name, or re-register the vehicle, they may not have to be physically in WA to do so (can do it by mail or online), but they may need an established WA address, I expect. However WA-plated cars are generally well regarded, because of the relative ease of re-registration etc, compared to other states that require your physical attendance at a Vehicle Registraiton Office within the state.

If you're in Sydney at the time you wish to sell, you could ask at the Kings Cross Car Market - they will have all the relevant information.
