I need to ask @ianw6705 (gee I hope that works) when in Tenterfield did you have the P Allen song going through the head? I get horrendous ear worms at times. Vienna (it means nothing to me), Darlinghurst, Adelaide (that varies between Paul Kelly's song and Rob Clarkson's "seriously thinking of moving to South Australia"), Innisfail and so on.

Hi @markfawkner, it certainly worked a treat, however I subscribe to ANZ branch threads, so it is a bit belt and braces, as I receive two notifications.

Tenterfield tomorrow (Tuesday), but the song will be there indeed ... and family semi-mythology says we're related to Peter Allen, through my Auntie Peg who hailed from Gunnedah. Could even be true.

And back on topic, since we're shallow tourists we don't really interact with the local denizens, other than people at checkout counters, and I have to say they have all been pleasant and friendly.

But what I have noticed is that - apart from a few Indigenous people - almost everyone is white Anglo-Irish (quite a shock if you come from Melbourne, to say the least).

... and they often have that slightly odd demented look of several generations of inbreeding, mixing with extremely low ambition. I can only assume the normal, bright and good-looking ones escaped to the big cities. Interesting trip so far ... but not rude!

Bananas sound the go ... $2.49 kg in Essendon.

They were only 99 cents per kilo at Queen Vic Market on Saturday. I wouldn't be doing my fruit and veg shopping in Essendon!

Hi Zook! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

No cheap bananas on the Gold Coast either ... but we did find a hippie selling cheap watermelons on the road-side between Lismore and Bangalow. It's nice being in Queensland again, although it does get light awfully early in the morning - about 4:30 or so.

The people up here aren't rude either, I can report - they're skinny, happy, and rich ... which is the way it should be for everyone of course!
