Janet - The intro page states that

Quote

You may participate in this survey if you were born in Australia, and are over the age of 18.

It then at I think Q5 asks whether or not you were born in Australia. You can answer no and still continue to complete the survey.

Quote

The survey is totally unanimous and can only be taken once

Rubbish, you can only take the survey once from the same computer without using a proxy. This means if you want to bias the results you either just change computers or use an anonymous proxy and enter as many times as you like.

Tracing IP addresses which is how the program is stopping legitimate people from taking the survey and not stopping people who want to try more than once.

There is no random sample in this as it is a self selecting poll. If you are interested in the poll you complete it. This is in no way like a random poll in shopping centre.

I like it - a 'unanimous' poll.......

What is the margin of error? Usually scientifically conducted polls give a percentage margin of error depending on the size of sample.

I'm with ngapalibeach and ryb. Not a lot of control over the sample population.

I never object to people having a go- be it running surveys or running for parliament!

Nothing wrong with people doing polls or running for parliament. That is why I don't normally comment on poll threads reliability. However, I am worried that university level research is considering a self selecting poll to be called research.
