I wouldn't stay in tenannt creek.Use that day in kakadu. To be honest in that short space of time I'd be looking for a tour. You may also have issues driving a rental car on the dirt road from Kings Canyon to alice (At least I think its still dirt road). I'd also skip Port Augusta, although I realise you are using it as a base to see the flinders ranges, you could go straight to the flinders ranges from Adelaide.

But seriously for such a short space of time, look for a your and compare costs.

keep in mind your uninsured once you leave sealed roads unless you have rented a 4wd with correct insurance check to make certain you have glass ins coverage. cracked windows can be costly.

It seems to me like a lot of driving and not much sightseeing.

As the others have said, its a lot to cover in short time frame. You could do it but you would be too tired to enjoy it after a day or two. I would suggest joining a tour for at least part of the trip. We did the reverse of your trip, we originally wanted to drive it all but joined a tour in the end and it was so much easier. We did a three day tour from Darwin to kakadu and litchfield national parks with wayoutback. Then we got a camper relocation between Darwin and Alice (three days for just $16). We then joined a tour from Alice Springs that covered Kings Canyon, Uluru, The Olgas, Coober Pedy, Flinders Ranges, Clare Valley and ended in Adelaide. It was around 7 days and only cosy about $700 including all food, when you take petrol costs in to account it is well worth it. That was with a company called Groovy Grape and they were excellent. More info on our blog, or just ask!
