It's owned by that American, Rupert Murdoch, so it must be.

I once stayed in a hostel in Turkey which wouldn't allow Turks to stay there!

Just look at the mess they leave behind, the Turkish owner said!

Never try to whistle with a mouth full of custard.

I'm not questioning the existance of the law. But until there is some kind of precedent (and 'my udnerstanding' doesn't crack it) then their actions are not illegal. An illegal act is not committed unless it is found to be illegal.

@markfawkner

An illegal act is an illegal act whether it was discovered or not . If you actually murder someone its still a crime even before you are found to be guilty .And it goes more than 'my understanding' I was able to verify the incident at Noosa did occur. The important thing is that any Australian who is being denied accommodation or is being discouraged in any way or asked to show a passport at a Backpacker hostel can warn the reception or management they are breaching anti discrimination laws and that they can be reported.

Murdoch would never allow made up stories or exaggerated puff pieces to appear in his papers , it would go against everything he ever stood for. Anyway Raki Man wouldn't read a publication it if it wasn't high brow.

"If you actually murder someone its still a crime" - but what if a court finds you not guilty for, say, self-defence. Unless it is proven it is only your opinion that they have broken the act. Sorry to disappoint you.

If you acted in self defence then its not an actual murder. But in the case of hostels whether the complaint is upheld or not having to go thru the the process will still cause problems or complicationsfor them and they have to be mindful of that.

Years ago there was no defence of " self defence". You were expected to keep the perp at bay until help arrived. Happened to someone I knew. He was charged with attempted murder but was let off unless he came before the courts on anything to do with assault.
