we are booked into a place in Cape Tribulation from teh 26th of June leaving the 1st of July and then we have to be in Cardwell at 9 am on the 4th of July-- we'll stay thereabouts until the 8th of july then have to be in Cairns for a meeting until the 11th--then we have 12-15th to fill up with some travellling....
any ideas about where to go? I was thinking of driving down from cape tribulation and over to the atherton tablelands for a couple of nights then on to cardwell, but also could checkout the tables lands the 12th thru the 15th......and maybe go up to cooktown for a night on the 1st then move south? --but that seemed like alot of driving......... anyone have ideas about how to fill our time?

thanks,

Lori

I also think Cooktown is not the best use of your time. Alternatives include Atherton Tableland as you mention, Port Douglas (lovely town), the Tully River and the rainforest national park, Mission Beach and a day trip to Dunk Island. All good, and in a reasonably compact area. Presumably you are contemplating or including reef trips, Mossman Gorge, and Hinchinbrook Island off Cardwell.

At Mossman Gorge don't stop and turn around at the bridge- the circular walk beyond the bridge is very pretty.

There are also aboriginal led tours at Mossman which cover a different area, mainly focusing on use of native plants.

Also I did a beach-tucker hunting tour/walk with Brandon Walker , this left from near Port Douglas. We foraged through the mangrove mud for mudcrabs, snails and such and his mom then did a cook-up of our catch. The Walkers also do other tours, I missed out on the night-spearfishing tour because there had been heavy rain :(
