Hi everyone,

Myself and 3 other friends are travelling to Australia on WHVs in Nov. We arrive in Sydney and are provisionally booked in to stay there for 5 days, from there we are planning to visit a few friends in Newcastle.

We plan on travelling North up the East Coast but, in particular, we are stuck for ideas on where to stay over the Christmas period and through the New Year. Additionally, it is also my birthday on the 23rd Dec so ideally I'd like to be settled in a place before then.

I've read/heard that this time of the year is extremely busy so we are quite keen on getting ourselves booked in to a hostel way in advance.

Any/all suggestions welcome, we are completely open on where to spend our time!

Many thanks!

PS. I should add that we are quite a sociable group and would preferably would like to stay in a party hostel of some sort, or at least one that has that sort of vibe!

Thanks again!

You would probably do well in familiarising yourself with Australia's weather patterns as much as we may have a reasonably normal one with Climate variation and I expect our further northern areas will still develop a wet season with humidity starting to build as Xmas approaches, earlier the further north you go.
If ultimately you are looking for work to get that second WHV, have a look at the Harvesttrail web site.
As for partying in the north around Xmas, you could think of places like Byron Bay in northern NSW, even Nimbin inland a bit near Byron Bay, the Gold Coast or Brisbane.
Start seeing where you can check into for Australian east coastal areas do become popular and busy around Xmas/NY, four in a hostel starting to add up if you choose hostels and for the $$$ involved you could buy some quality camping gear and a vehicle ought to also be considered if you have at least one in the group with a driving licence, your friends in Newcastle able to help with the details involved.
