Hallo
have alreday got a lot of infos from the forum but still hesitating what to do ( drop off fees or nor starting from south to north.)
I have now been thinking about the following
Ihave seen that if you stay in the same state with the car ( ex From Darwin to Ulrulu) the drop off fees are rasonable so I am thinkig of taking the car in Darwin and giving it back in Ayers rock

A question that comes to mymind is the following. How many days do I need If i want to make a detour from Katherine and back to Katherine ( before going then to alice) by visisting the kununurra ( lake argyle) and the bungle bungle NP.
is it really worth it? Whare to stay in hotel? I have seen a nice hotel but pricey at the entrance of buggle NP
I will have a 2 wheel drive. How can I then make a tour in the Bungle NP as I have seen that a 4 wheel drive is requested
Thx alot for any answer

How long do you have for this trip? I suggest you get a map and check the distances.
Darwin to Katherine is 320km. (What about Kakadu and Litchfield?)
Katherine to the Bungle Bungles and return to Katherine is over 1,200km and you CAN NOT drive in with a 2WD.It is not permitted. You will need to take a tour of some sort. You should allow 3 days there. Is it worth it??? Why are you coming to Australia?
Katherine to Alice Springs is another 1,200km and Alice to Uluru is another 450km (all PLUS deviations).

For comparison, Luxemburg to Munich is 530km, Luxemburg to Krakow is 1,200km, but the roads are much faster in Europe and there are no kangaroos and cattle on the roads.

Cheers,
Peter

Thx alot for the answer and feedback
In fact I have around 2 big weeks or about 16 days in Australia.
reading all the comments and looking at the drop off fees I think that the best is to make the trip from Darwin down to Uluru. The problem is that I want to avoid to drive back to DArwin in order not to make twice the long stretch Alice to Katherine.
I have to weight the price of a flight uluru darwin VS the drive back uluru darwin
Idealyy I would like to make a loop from Darwin to Darwin but I fear that it is not possible in the region
What would you do if you had 15 daa from Darwin with a car. So you would dis advice to go to Bungle NP. I will have a 2 wheel drive so it means that i have to book a separate tour to see the parc. What s about Kununurra and the lake. Interesting?
thx alot for your answer and advice

It really depends on the budget.
I would suggest 3-5 days in Kakadu (by tour out of Darwin), fly to Kununurra, take a boat trip from the Argyle Dam to the Diversion Dam (or even a 3 day canoe trip down stream through the gorge - fantastic) and then do a 3-4 day tour to the Bungle Bungles, then fly to Uluru for (say) 3 days (probably have to go back to Darwin?).
At least you would spend your time at some great places, rather than driving long roads.

Cheers,
Peter
