Try the Court House Hotel in Nth Melbourne. The food is seriously good.

Or if you want somewhere around the corner, I hear very good things about Gingerboy.

If budget is not an issue than I would suggest Vue de monde or Bistro Vue

If it is good food and service you are after, than I highly recommend it. I went to Bistro Vue recently and our waitress was fantastic. Every question we asked her (and there were a few questions about the french menu) she was able to answer.

It is a 2 minute walk from Oaks on Market.

Someone will have to update me on this but ages ago (when I lived in Melbourne) I was invited to a restaurant called "Vlados" where they served the best steaks in the universe. Vlados raised his own cattle, and the beef was so tender I could cut it with a fork. Mr, Vlados loved to cook and was retired from the jewelry business as I recall. Hope it's still open...
