Hello.
I'm heading to Brisbane for a gig next weekend, and have a few days to check the sights out.
The one small problemo is that I'm on a super tight budget, don't have a car and want to see what this city has to offer!
I'm a creative person - so any galleries, markets, dark and dirty bars, green areas with trees and flowers - is what I'm after .. any suggestions would be very choice!
:)

The City Cat will take you on a river round trip of City, Suburbs and University for 2 hours for only a few dollars. Head for Southbank. There are Markets at the week-end, a large lagoon ideal for swimming, new Arts Centre, Library and Museum all these will cost you nothing. You can also walk over to the Gardens from here. On a Sunday there are great Markets at Riverside which is in the CBD. A short bus trip, which will cost a few dollars, takes you to Mt. Coot-tha and the Gardens at Toowong which are free. Another bus or boat trip will take you to Lone Pine which will cost.

It sounds like you'd really love the Valley Markets. They run in the Brunswick St Mall on weekends, easiest way to get there is to get (any) train to Brunswick St station and follow the hordes.
I also recommend getting the CityCat upriver to Sydney St, where you can jump off, then walk back to the city along a floating path that's been built out over the river - the views are best at night. Or you could stay on the CityCat a little longer to check out New Farm Park. It's a great area for a wander around and it's also the home of the Powerhouse - a decrepit old power station that has been turned into a performing arts venue. It's worth a look even if you're not there for a performance.
Enjoy your weekend!
