What these silly buggers are going to find out is that places like UAE operate a justice system which is different to the legal system of Oz.

Quote

A Middle Eastern airline has confirmed that charges laid against three Australians in the United Arab Emirates relate to offences allegedly committed on one of its planes.

The three were arrested late last month in Abu Dhabi after disembarking from an Etihad flight from Sydney.

They have all been charged with intoxication and sexual harassment offences.

One has also been charged with indecent exposure and the other two with a drug offence.

In a statement, the airline says that it treats reported assaults on its staff and drunkenness on aircraft extremely seriously and it supports any prosecutions.

Under United Arab Emirates laws, drug possession can attract up to 15 years in jail.

...who presumably know very senior lawyers from very big Sydney law firms...?

That explains why it took so long to make the papers- and why the absence of names!

If they were from a leading accounting firm, then pointty end for sure. Male accountants in private practice are particularly revolting people. Sicko testosterone driven work culture.

If the big accounting firm is smart, they'll be billing all the hours they are held in that desert hell-hole to the poor client!

The media here never name names, they give initials, ages and nationalities unless they're convincted. And they're VERY harsh here!

THIS guy got caught recently with 0.01 grams of pot, and is sitting in jail awaiting trial.

and then there was THIS Greek cop who got 4 years for 0.17gm pot and a couple of prescription pills

Oh... and you don't even have to be in possesion of drugs, they can blood test you and if you come up positive it's off to jail you go.

The authorities here take a really dim view on harassment of women. I was being followed once in a market place by two men who kept hassling me pretty threateningly. I approached a police officer and told him, both of them were arrested and taken to the station then and there, just on my word.

I'm not sure how much sway any big wig friends will have here either... unless you've got a Sheik on your speed dial, your VERY unlikely to get any leniency!
