Apart from koalas, Tasmania is a really good option for seeing wildlife. Penguins at Bicheno are so numerous (and feisty) that some of them have taken over the burrows of the local rabbit population. When we were in Tasmania one January, we averaged about one snake sighting a day. Also countless wombats, echidnas, various types of birds etc etc.
