So this question isn't for me, but hoping you can lend advice for a buddy.

He's from the UK- entered on a 12 month WHV July 05', did fruit picking, extended it for a 2nd WHV. His employer has really been giving him the run around about residency etc etc.
They say they will sponsor him, but they want $4000. They promise him they can get him residency. He's pretty optimisitc.

I'm trying to keep it real- and let him know that he will probably need to make arrangements to leave oz b/c his visa expiration is rapidly approaching. (Mid July)

So my question is- are there any alternatives once you have used your 2nd WHV? Can you leave oz for 30 days, and apply for a new visa? Should he put his trust in this employer and shoot for residency? Is there any hope for him to stay longer?

I told him to talk to a solicitor who specialies in immigration to figure it out?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have my doubts about the $4000. Skilled migration is only $1990 and sponsored business visas are usually cheaper! To be honest he will probably need to leave Australia anyway, as I don't think they will grant a visa before mid july (only 7 weeks away) unless he sorts it all out ASAP!

He needs to speak to a MARA registered immigration agent some of whom contribute free of charge to this website here - British Expats

Don't worry - it's not just for Brits either! Get him to post as much detail as possible (age, experience, skills, job etc) to the immigration forum.

Is the employer offering to sponsor him for temporary or permanent residency? TR should be quicker and easier, and shouldn't cost that much, unless the company uses an agent themselves.

If it's PR, I doubt that they would get it through by mid July, so yes, unless he can get a bridging visa, he would have to leave Australia then come back later.
