Hello,

I have a British and a Burmese passport. Burma unfortunately does not yet allow dual nationality.

I would like to apply for a working holiday visa in Australia but I was wondering if I should declare that I have 2 passports in my application? Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

M

Not need to declare 2 passports.
Burmese cannot get the Aust WHV, you do know, don't you, why complicate matters?
If you have a safe place at "home" in the UK, I would put it the Burmese passport there, or even in a safety deposit box at a bank.
Aust does not worry about duals, even Aussies are allowed to have dual passports.
I have not given up my Malaysian citizenship formally, but by my own desire, I have no need for the Malaysian passport, mine expired a long time ago, and am not planning for applying for a new one.
Think about it, do you really need the Burmese passport on your travels down to Aust?

As mentioned above, Australia does not have a WHV agreement with Myanmar and so you will need to apply with your UK passport. As people from Myanmar do not have access to simplified visa application process any mention of your Myanmar passport could very well complicate matters.

See this page for more details about the WHV:

And take care with how and where you apply for your visa.

[Australian Immigration]( www.immi.govt.au) is the official web site for info.

When applying for the WHV for Australia use www.border.gov.au, but that's a poorly-designed website. The www.australia.com website is the government tourism website and it presents the options in a much clearer manner.

Unless you think you'll need your Burmese passport, then don't bother bringing it. Australia won't really care about it to be honest, no need to mention it, but even so they won't care about it either.

I'm in a similar boat - Australian and NZ passports. I only got a NZ passport once - and it was only useful to take for ID if required, and I did take it travelling with me for a while and used it for ID to change money while the Australian passport was at Embassies getting visas. When it expired I didn't renew it. Note that it's not illegal in Australia to have dual nationalities.

Note that it's not illegal in Australia to have dual nationalities.

It once was. Australians could not take out a second citizenship without giving up their Australian citizenship. Whereas, at the time, foreign nationals could take out Aus citizenship and keep their original citizenship(s). It was an odd discrepancy, but since been eliminated.
