Which area in Ko Samui do you like best ?Country forums / Thailand / Thailand
Hi there. We (a couple in our 50s) are heading to Ko Samui for 3 weeks in August. The last time we went was 15 years ago with our kids. We stayed at Chaweng and from memory the water was shallow (April) and the beach was gorgeous :)
I would get the LP Islands book for Thailand. Definitely worth the money. Samui is really small. Chaweng to Bo Phut is a few minute drive, same to Lamai. It has really changed since you were there last...get ready. Massive development. And not for the better. It is packed. What type of a trip are you looking for? Quiet? Avoid Chaweng. Access to restaurants/bars? Chaweng is perfect. I like the beach at either end as opposed to the middle...but just my preference.... | 1
Choengmon is my favorite beach on Samui, nice and restuarants and the like around but quiet. Bophud and Fisherman's Village are the same, some years ago some smart marketing guy put up a big sign 'Fisherman's Village' over the entrance of Bophud and since than all newcomers call it FV rather than Bophud. Bophud and Maenam beaches are similar although Bophud or FV is more 'romantic' and is one of the few tourictic areas whre there are no girlie bars. Chaweng and Lamai are also similar in a way. The Southern part is the nicest part of the island, Baan Taaling Ngaam and Hua Thanon are great and quiet. Samui has indeed changed drastically the last 15 years, I'm living here now for 11 years and there's plenty of changes in those years but than again, I bet that your local neighbourhood doesn't look the same as 15 years ago! Have a look at my Samui info blog , first link below, it has plenty of info on things to do and see around Samui. | 2
Yes - quiet hotel - but like to walk out for dinner and to have a good beach close by :) | 3
Dang, was going to recommend a hotel, but see it is gone! Munchies...older, but cheap and right on the beach...bummer.... Edited by: craigt3365 | 4
Has been replaced by a very big new complex. | 5
If you want a nice relaxing holiday why would anyone go to samui when there are so many other better options. There aresome nice bits of samui but the best advice would be to steer clear. I like samui, but I'm not into quiet relaxing holidays | 6
