Was thinking about going back to Phi Island .Have not been since the before the Tsunami and was wondering what it’s like there these days. Any good Accommodation that can be recommended or Restaurants that are a most. Thanks for your help in Advance
i went there for the first time in december 2008,so i dont really know how to compare it to pre-tsunami,but from what ive been told it has been developed even more so than it was before the tsunami struck..saying that i absolutely loved it there, great place to chill out,lie on a beach and swim in a beautiful ocean whilst taking in the lovely scenery.i prefered visiting the beach on the pier side, which was always a lot quieter then the main beach round the other side. (you will probably know all of the above as you've been there before) as for accomodation,i stayed at the p.p casita which was nice but very expensive,2500-3000bt per night, but i was only here for 4 nights,if i was to go back to phi phi as i plan to in april i would probably look for somehwhere cheaper to stay. i found a nice place where i ate every night called the garlic restaurant, the place looks a bit amateur and rickity (uneven floor etc) but the food is nice and very reasonably priced and the staff are lovely. | 1
I also didn't see it pre-tsunami, but from what I saw of the main pier and beach area it is very developed and crawling with travel shops and touts, backpackers and cheap accommodation, the beach has an amazing view but was littered with ciggie butts and other trash, plus you had to pay everywhere along the beach to sit on a chair, get a towel or walk on the sand. I stayed at Long Beach though and it was totally different... quiet, no touts, more chilled out people and a much more beautiful beach. Stayed at Phi Phi Hill which has the most amazing views anywhere, you just have to be prepared to walk up a few flights of stairs to get there. Had cheap bungalows for 700, or about 1500+ for ones with views. | 2
had a feeling that might be the case. Tigerstu | 3

frankie - look at tezza's site and travelfish.org - tezza is a blody legend and a very generous person about giving advice. I'm in the same position - technically Lanta is supposed to be better but getting there in low season will be a pain in the arse o- so my friend and are going to stay at Ao Ko Toh - tezz give a terrific review on his website - And from what I've read Ton Sai has never had it's charm but from long beach and up gthe east coast I believe there are still places worth seeing - have a wonderful time | 5
Tezza, Thanks for the links still in two minds | 6
