onward ticket problems

Country forums / Thailand / Thailand

hi

any experience with the tourist visa and a one-way ticket at immigration? I shall be getting multiple entry visa - for 3 entries - hoping to stay 9 months and coming in on a one-way from UK - envisage any problems for me with this kind of ticket?

Thanks.

No problems. The visa represents the fact that Thailand has already granted you permission to enter the Kingdom. Have a good trip.

You MUST check the length of stay you are allowed with each entry. Normally a 30 days visa is granted if you just turn up. However you can get 2 and 3 month visas from Thai embassies. The big problem is that if you overstay your visa, it costs 500 baht per day and if you can't pay, you go to jail. Seriously. Some companies in Thailand do border runs specifically to overcome this problem, every 30 days.

On a multiple entry tourist visa, each entry is good for 60 days in Thailand, which then can be extended at the immigration office for an addtional 30 days ie for three months in total. Mind you the extension is not supposed to be automatic, but apparently it's rarely denied. So the OP is correct in that the 3-entry visa could give him or her a total of 9 months in-country, in theory anyway. #1's response is 100% correct.

This is NOT TRUE. What you get is a 30-day EXEMPTION, not a visa. This is an important distinction because the rules on proof of onward travel, limit of 90 days in 180-day period etc. apply to the exemption, but not to the visa (which is valid for a stay of 60 days).
