Koh Samui or Koh Phi Phi in september

Country forums / Thailand / Thailand

Hey all,

I've planned a trip in september to Thailand, but i'm a still not sure about te location. One of the thing i'm worried about is the weather. Can anyone tell me where i will probably have the beste weather? Koh Samui or Koh Phi Phi...

Thanks!

In an average year September is towards the end of the Samui area's drier mid-year period - wet season is there is normally different, Oct into Jan.
So it is usually drier than Phi Phi. Got stats, more info in the appropriate link below. Q - will this year be normal?
Mind you, wet season on the Andaman side usually has enough sunshine for a good holiday.

Q - will this year be normal?
Well this Thai Bureau of Metreorogy site says both the southern Gulf and the Andaman will have slightly below normal rain in Sept/Oct

Q - how reliable are long long range forecasts?

Thanks Tezza! So for the weather it won't make a big difference..Can you give me some reasons why i should go to Samui or Phi Phi?

Ummm - Phi Phi:
Spectacular scenery, very laid back beaches and resorts on the less visited and sheltered east coast, some good daytrips around the island, good partying in town despite low season, some seriously good discounting of midrange and upper properties on booking sites, fairly easy to access from an airport (Phuket or Krabi).

Samui - better weather normally in Sept as said, huge range of midrange and better properties, better shopping and clubbing, good daytrips, more commercialised and western although there are still some very relaxed beaches, can fly right on to the island from Bangkok, Phuket, Singapore, KL.

For budget travellers, I reckon the neighbouring islands of Phangan and Tao are more suitable. But Samui is okay - I'm going back after many years in August.
