Koh Lak or Koh Lanta for Diving Certification (open water)ill be

Country forums / Thailand / Thailand

Hi All!

I will be heading to Thailand for around 9 days and am looking to get an open water diving certification. As I know this season is better on the west coast koh lak/similan islands or koh lanta look to be the places to go (or other recommendations??).

As I am looking to get an open water certification (this will be my first time diving), Does anyone have any recommendations on which area is better? I know the liveaboards in similan are suppose to be great but I feel that my first time would be better to start on land.

Do you still get to see great reefs if doing day trips from Koh Lak or is Koh Lanta better? Any dive shop recs would be greatly appreacited. Looking to do some beach time as well after the certification

Any recs would be great!

Adam

Lot more boat time travelling in lanta as they mostly dive close to phi phi..2 hours each way

Though you wont get alot of choice..... Try to...

Get a native speaker who speaks your language..

These days courses, unfortunately, are completed in 3 days... One becomes a better diver if its spread over 4 as there is a lot to learn..

Try to get an experienced instructor rather than a newbie... More likely to find in Lak...

Dont just take the cheapest available.. Koh lipe is also an option but you should look at budget as well...ie living, bungalows,
