Koh Chang or Phu Quoc

Country forums / Thailand / Thailand

Hi guys,

I need your help: I have to choose between Phu Quoc (Vietnam) and Koh Chang/Koh Mak....I'm planning to be overthere in August.

Thanks a lot!!
Francesca

Toss a coin?

Even better, post on SEA branch where you will get people that have been to both.

OP I've been to both. What are you looking for in terms of comparison ?

2

Fran - just put a reply on your Ko Wai question (I haven't logged in for a while) in case you don't check it.

Koh Chang is OK but becoming a little overdeveloped in places.
Phu Quoc is much less developed but the better beaches are on the opposite side of the Island to where the ferry arrives and need a rented motorbike to get to them. If its easy access to beaches then Koh Chang wins..

Hello.

I would say koh Chang if you Want beaches and to chill out. It has developed a lot. But there's spots around away from the late partys. I've been 3 times and have seen the changes for good and bad but still going back at end of July August for a
Month or more.

How long are you going and what do you want from holiday ?

I was in Koh Chang in january, and as said before, its not a "hidden jem" anymore, but I still really liked it. Its touristy, but still (apart from White Beach) totally fine and not too touristy. You can still find small local restaurants, where you get cheap and real Thai food. No girlie bars, no Mc Donalds.

I havent been to Phu Quoc, so cant compare. Of course - as pointed out before - it also depends what you are looking for. I have been to Vietnam twice, and to Thailand at least 10 times, and very generally put, I would prefer Thailand over Vietnam as a "go to the beach, chill out, eat well, dont do much, no hassle" destination.

Like other posters I have been to one (PQ x 2) but not the other (KC). And also like other posters it depends on what you are looking for. And where else are you visiting on your trip? If you are mostly in Thailand then maybe PQ makes sense. Otherwise I would go with KC as I was disappointed with PQ both times.

I been in Koh Mak last november, is a nice place, but is a little bit boring, nothing to do in the nightlife.

Koh Mak is good for stay 3-5 days, no more.
