| Kananga11:28 UTC09 May 2007 | Ok,
If you could fly into any international airport in Thailand for a 4 day trip, where would you go?
| |
| ling_mau11:48 UTC09 May 2007 | So the choice is Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket or Samui?
Or are there any others?
| 1 |
| beerlao12:03 UTC09 May 2007 | Bangkok or Phuket depending on what you want to do when you get there.
| 2 |
| chanchao12:33 UTC09 May 2007 | > Or are there any others?
Had Yai is also international. :)
But personally I'd fly into Phuket then.

| Kananga13:24 UTC09 May 2007 |
Quote
So the choice is Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket or Samui?

Krabi, Hat Yai.
Quote
Bangkok or Phuket depending on what you want to do when you get there.

Thanks. The question is more me asking what YOU would do if you have 4 days.

If one flight counts, so is Udon Thani =)
Chiang Mai for me but only because I haven't been there.
| 5 |
| Persona_Non_Grata13:58 UTC09 May 2007 | 4 days.... Samet.
| 6 |
| dominic7714:33 UTC09 May 2007 | Samui then take a ferry across to Ko Tao.
| 7 |
| Kananga16:23 UTC09 May 2007 | I thought about Samet, but the 3/4 hours to get there and back to Bangkok is ruling that one out. The wife however did suggest Tao but again, the time with the boats is not looking good.
Chiang Mai for Christmas so that's out. Think it may be Krabi. Or Phuket. I've been told the main prioroty is there has to be an available supply of BBQ pork and somtum.
Surprised no one has suggested Pattaya ;-)
| 8 |
| Persona_Non_Grata16:39 UTC09 May 2007 | No Samet, really - Stay at Samet Villa and Spend the day over at Tub Tim ... wonderful.
| 9 |
| Persona_Non_Grata16:40 UTC09 May 2007 |
Quote
Surprised no one has suggested Pattaya ;-)

I assumed you'd be taking your wife with you. ;-)
So, again, Samet
| 10 |
| Kananga16:49 UTC09 May 2007 | She likes Pattaya! Sort of.
Ok, ok, I'll give Samet another thought. It was my first choice as well. Where is Samet Villa?
| 11 |
| chanchao17:07 UTC09 May 2007 | Mine likes Pattaya too. In fact I have a harder time getting her to places like Samet or Tao than Pattaya. Pattaya is considered more civilized I suppose. :)
But anyway with 4 days I'd fly into either Phuket or Krabi and visit some islands. Pattaya you can do on any weekend you happen to find yourself in Bangkok; there's always time for Pattaya.
| 12 |
| Kananga18:06 UTC09 May 2007 |
Quote
Naturally you'll be staying in a 30,000 baht/night villa.

I will if you find me one. Go on and google it ~bitch~
| 13 |
| Persona_Non_Grata18:18 UTC09 May 2007 | Where is Samet Villa?
Samet Villa - #21 on TravelFish Map of Samet
Tub Tim is #23
| 14 |
| Persona_Non_Grata18:31 UTC09 May 2007 | True, you do need to be away from the Silver Sands end of Samet Villa, alternatively move right over to Tub Tim.
| 15 |
| honkytonky219:02 UTC09 May 2007 | U - Tapao is also an international airport and flies to Moscow in the high season. They used to serve Seoul - Incheon too but those flights have been discontinued.
Chiang Rai is billed as an international airport, but doesn't have any flights outside Thailand.
| 16 |
| Kananga20:46 UTC09 May 2007 | What a strange reply. Hope the mods don't see it.
| 17 |
| hetman22:19 UTC09 May 2007 | You luck thai women sleep long time you can run out get quicky and come back before she wake up.
| 18 |
| dilysi22:34 UTC09 May 2007 | Probably fly into Phuket and then some kind of fast transfer to Phi Phi, boats and planes cunningly dovetailed at either end of the break so all the travelling is in the same day period. The compact nature of the destination would suit your compact time frame and there's lots of scope for daytripping between islands / Ao Nang / Krabi et al.

| tezza12:19 UTC10 May 2007 | Umm, I seem to recall you have been to PP, Krabi, Samet, and Khao Lak, so maybe if yer lady was with you on all of these, a new place might be welcome. Lanta is pretty nice and has a huge range of accomm and fairly easy access from Krabi airport, which is international for Singapore (maybe Malaysia?) For one off the radar, Ko Yao Noi just off Phuket is pretty good and has stuff ranging from budget thru to high end. The ferry for Yao is pretty close to Phuket airport. As you know I've got heaps of stuff on these on my "boring blog" (SBE) in the link below. Another near-Phuket one is Coral island. I haven't been but a recent post said it was real nice and I have seen it on travel brochures etc. I think most accom there is midrange. Phuker itself - howbout a laid back area with real nice hotels, sheltered lovely beaches in wet season, fairly close to Phuket town - talking about Cape Panwa -check this one out for the least expensive hotel in the area Bay Hotel - great reviews - genuine low season bargain - high season pretty reasonable too.

| Kananga12:46 UTC10 May 2007 | Thanks. Went to Lanta in Dec last year for a week. Was nice, but being mostly muslim there wasnt an abundance of pork which the wife had issues with.
Not been to Yao noi. I hear wayne16 is the Yao master. Was also thinkiing about Jum as it's closer than Lanta fromt he Krabi ferry. Also thinking about Nai Thon on Phuket. Near the airport and nice a quiet. Bay hotel looks nice though.
Although Samet does still sound tempting.

She has you though, hasn't she? :)
> Although Samet does still sound tempting.
Well, no shortage of pork, but an issue could be that there's not a whole lot of Thais outside of holiday weekends, meaning that the food is mostly aimed at Western tourists, backpackers especially, who mostly aren't keen on splurging on seafood and the like which is often a 'must' for Thais on a beach holiday. Without that demand, few places do spectacular seafood. Joe Backpacker happily eats his Khao Phat Kai and a fruitshake on the beach, Thais often have fantasies of huge fish & sea critters..
Other than that Ko Samet is very nice.

| tezza19:42 UTC10 May 2007 | Yep, wayne16 has the gen on Yao Noi.
Jum is real nice, but there is no access off the Lanta ferry in low season on account the Krabi-Lanta ferry don't run. But you can access both islands from the nearby mainland. I have details on low season access to Jum at the end of my Jum thingy in the link below. Not sure how many Jum places stay open, but there is a sublink to kojumonline which is a real good website and should tell you.
I just hit Coral Island Resort's websit via travelfish on account I'm thinking a few days there in August - sure looks nice although prices aren't as fabulous as Bay Hotel.
| 23 |
| tezza19:46 UTC10 May 2007 | Oh yeah, and even though I haven't visited recently, if Samet is like it was some years back, it is a real nice island. Gets a bit busy weekends.
| 24 |
| Kananga21:03 UTC10 May 2007 | Was last on Samet about 18 months ago. Nice, but getting busy. Lots of drunk swedes.
Quote
just hit Coral Island Resort's websit via travelfish on account I'm thinking a few days there in August - sure looks nice although prices aren't as fabulous as Bay Hotel.

Perhaps we'll bump into each other ;-)

| 26 |
| Kananga20:59 UTC11 May 2007 | #31 Please don't take offence here, but with the crap information you provide elsewhere on this site (thai nicknames and travel agents for example) I'll take your recommendations with a pinch of salt.
Thanks everyone else.

| tezza11:21 UTC12 May 2007 | "Panwa beach looks to only have a very narrow strip of sand" Well yes and no. On Bay Hotel's side it looks pretty skinny, but there is a free shuttle 500m across to sister and more upmarket hotel Cape Panwa, and it definitely has a gorgeous beach, protected from the westerlies.
I'm being real anal finding a Phuket hotel on account Lady Tezza is coming to LOS with me fer the first time (a fluent Japanese speaker, she would rather normally spend her holiday time in that country). Now LT demands more comfort than me, so the old 350baht bungalow is out. So in my anality, I found this great oblique aerial shot of Bay Hotel, and as you can see there is no beach at all (at least on the tide when this was taken)! BTW, I think they are being naughty with that beach shot below - I think this is Cape Panwa Hotel's beach on account of the short pier in the background.
So then I hit google, and found Bay Hotel at 7 degrees 48' 20"N - 98 degrees 24' 13"E - Cape Panwa is the peninsula directly south of Phuket Town. You can see that there is a beach just a bit south of the hotel in the direction of that long pier. Note this is not on the sheltered side of the peninsula from the wet season winds. Should only be a problem on the windier days, might be a plus on warm days when a cooling breeze is needed. If you go directly across the narrow peninsula from Bay Hotel, you can see the much bigger Cape Panwa Hotel and its much nicer beaches. Thing is, this hotel is about double the price of Bay Hotel, but that still leaves it in the $S90 range low season. Bit high for tezza-tight-arse but maybe not the junior tycoon from Singapore.
I reckon views would be equal (but different of course) from either hotel.

| Kananga11:32 UTC12 May 2007 | Thanks tezza. If money's a bit tight I can always buy you breakfast.

But obviously you need to be spoon fed like a baby.

What in god's name are you talking about? I have NEVER asked a question about flights on this site. I can only assume you have spent too long in the sun outside starbucks counting cars again. May I suggest an iced frapuccino to try and return you back to normal
What about my nicknames comment. How come you ignored defending that?
