I know this has been covered before, but I read a reason for the word's origin that I hadn't heard before:

Hey guys,
Im heading to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam from november - january.
Would it be wise to bring a light sleeping bag? Or should I just bring a 'double sheet sown in half' kinda thing?
Ive also heard of other people bringing mosquito nets, I didnt really think about taking one ... but would it be nessecary?
I will be travelling on a tight budget staying in guesthouses, hostels and bungalows for most of the trip.

Thanks for the advice ;)

Hi all, Does anyone remember a beach that you have to swim through a cave to get to and when you do its has pristine white sand. I seem to have heard it was in Krabi but I can't recall the name. I also remember reading you could hire a tour through it by kayak/ canoe? Is any of this a-ringing a bell? Any experience of this spot is greatly appreciated.

Hi I have been reading some of the suggestions here and already wonder why I am going to Thailand in the middle of the monsoons. Thought I saw enough typhoons in Hong Kong. Anyway have read the suggestions about holding your important electronic gear in zip locked bags, which sounds very sensible to me. So stupid question where do I buy one, particularly in the UK. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Ray

Hi, not sure whether to buy Baht in London or in Bangkok where I'll be in two days time.
Could anyone please tell me the approximate exchange rate against the pound cash available in the high street as of today? Is that commission free?
Thanks.

Hi all

Seeking to stay for 6 months with wife + 2 kids - basically on extremely long holiday, so not seeking to work in Thailand with Thai employer. What are our visa options? Can we sort out permission for a 6-month stay in advance?

No desire to negotiate upon arrival...

Dan

Warning:
On Saturday night one week ago I met an Irishman in Khao San Road, Bangkok, who told me how a few days before he had been secretly drugged and had passed out in a tuk-tuk. When he woke up he had lost his passport.
One or two hours later a similar thing happened to me. I was eating a late-night meal in a pavement restaurant with three Thai women I had met in Khao San Road. We were the last customers and foolishly enough I had revealed where I was staying. My beer must have been drugged…
